Linux/Network Engineer - DataCentre
A Leading FTSE 500 Business are looking to hire an experienced Datacentre Engineer with extensive experience in Linux administration and Network Engineering.
- Based in Hatfield, North London
- Hybrid Working - 2 or 3 days a week in the office
- Salary between £60,000 - £80,000 (plus bonus + benefits)
The day-to-day
- The Datacentre engineer will help build and maintain new mobility test and development labs for the internal and external customers. In addition, the engineer will build out and maintain the internal infrastructure and systems that provide the services the mobility labs are built. This requires integration with existing network and deployed systems and documenting the as-built procedures as well as a framework for supporting the deployed systems. You will work directly with other datacenter engineers to deploy these systems as well as cross-team with professionals from other functions that will assist in network integration.
Examples of day to day tasks include:
- Install and configure hardware (i.e. servers, switches, routers, and power distribution units (PDUs) and software, rack and run cables
- Run, label and dress cabling necessary for interconnected systems
- Linux and windows administration
- Security posturing and implementation
- Network monitoring and management
- Create and maintain diagrams, documentation and guides related to lab infrastructure, setup and processes
- Provide technical support to the other teams, troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with the environment and our solutions. Effectively communicating issues to management and higher-level technical support
- Ensure that reporting is accurate and provided in a timely manner
- Other Datacentre operations as needed
What you'll need
- Troubleshooting and triaging of system alerts for mid-level issues.
- Able to effectively work with other team members to resolve issues and able to suggest and develop practical, rapid solutions for day-to-day issues
- Experience with typical application landscape within an enterprise data center environment
- Experience with implementing and maintaining virtualized environments (e.g. VMware, KVM, etc.)
- Strong experience with Linux and Windows system administration including security and patch management.
- Solid understanding of networking principles including networking protocols, basic routing, ports, and firewalls
- Experience with supporting hardware (Dell/HP servers, NetApp storage, and multi-vendor network devices) in virtualized environments
- The ability to run, and terminate cables in a lab environment including cable fabrication
- Discover opportunities for automation by identifying manual, repetitive, tactical operational workloads and develop automation scripts, tools, and/or frameworks to optimize and standardize.
- Can function Independently for tasks assigned
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in heterogenous environments for engineers and customers
- Exceptional organizing and time-management skills
- Ability to work across multi-functional teams and with geographically distributed teams
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Travel up to 10%
What will help you on the job
- Have completed a degree in a technical subject (Engineering/Physics/Computing/Networking/etc.)
- One or more related technical certifications Linux+, Network+, Cisco or Juniper network certifications, AWS or similar.
Nice to Haves
- Scripting experience using Python, JavaScript, REST or equivalent language.
- Server virtualization or AWS/Cloud experience
- Knowledge or experience with tools such as Git, Artifactory, Jenkins, Puppet, Ansible, Docker
- Basic knowledge of commercial avionics systems (115v/400Hz, ARINC standards, A600 Connectors, Quadrax, trays etc.)
- Satellite/Wireless communications experience
